Lacrosse: Panthers lose close match-up to visiting Methodist in USA South action

Panther lacrosse fell to USA South foe Methodist, 12-9, under the lights on Friday at Panther Field. The three-goal loss marks the smallest deficit for LaGrange so far this season, as well as the team's best effort against the Monarchs, in the history of the program.

Leading the way for the Panther defense was freshman Ashley Davis, who collected five ground balls, three caused turnovers and two draw controls. Veteran Paige Castle aided in the defensive efforts with four ground balls and three caused turnovers.

Between the posts for LaGrange was sophomore goalkeeper Chelsea Totaro, who turned in her highest save total of the season with 20.

Offensively, sophomore Kelsey Griffin led the Panthers with five goals, while newcomer Sophia Durand scored two. Freshman Olivia Monroe and junior Tiffany Dillard netted one goal a piece.

The 12 goals scored by Methodist also marks the lowest amount of points allowed by LaGrange so far in 2012.

The Panthers will return to action on Saturday, March 10, as they battle visiting USA South rival North Carolina Wesleyan. The game is scheduled to begin at noon.
