FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Methodist kept LaGrange winless on the season; downing the Panthers 18-7 on Saturday in a USA South game. The loss left the Panthers 0-3 overall and in the conference. The Monarchs (1-4) picked up their first win of the season and evened their conference record at 1-1.
Trailing 2-0 in the first half, Griffin scored her first goal six minutes into the game to cut the deficit in half. Colvin scored five minutes later to cut the Monarchs' lead to 4-2.
Methodist scored six straight goals to build a 10-2 lead. Jasmine Stephens, who led the Monarchs with seven goals, scored three of the goals. Vann scored off Dillard's pass in the final seconds of the first half to make it 10-3 at halftime.
The two teams traded goals to start the second half. Griffin scored twice to keep the Panthers within striking distance. The Monarchs built a 16-5 lead with 11 minutes remaining.
Griffin scored unassisted to make it 16-6. Colvin closed out the scoring with less than two minutes left for the 18-7 final.
The Panthers play at N.C. Wesleyan on Sunday in a USA South game.
