Women's Lacrosse: Christopher Newport rolls past Panthers in 2011 season opener

LaGrange fell to Christopher Newport 22-2 in its 2011 season opener Tuesday at Panther Field. The game was also the USA South opener for both teams.

Christopher Newport (2-0, 1-0 USA South), the preseason favorite to win its fifth straight conference title, had 10 different players score goals in the game. Kaitlin Quigley led the Captains with four goals and five assists.

Freshman Kelsey Griffin scored both of the goals for the Panthers. Griffin had three of the Panthers' five shots on goal in the game.

The Captains led 17-2 at halftime. They led 5-0 four minutes into the game. Griffin scored both of her goals in a four minute span to make it 7-2.

The Panthers host Shenandoah on Sunday at noon in a USA South game.
