Lauren Johnson's shot with one second left lifted LaGrange to a 44-42 win over Brevard on Saturday in Mariotti Gym. The Panthers (10-13) avenged an earlier 80-62 loss to the Tornados (11-10) on Jan. 27.
"What a wonderful win for our players. We have had a lot of those type of games go against us this year," Coach Lee Buchanan said. "I'm just proud of how hard we played. I thought we competed hard on every possession."
"Marilauren really had a complete game with a double-double and Riley's 3-point field goals were big," said Buchanan. "The biggest shot of the night was at the end by Lauren. She struggled all night to make a shot but made the most important one at the end."
Farr's layup off an assist from Austin Richardson tied the game at 42 with 1:20 left. The Panthers got possession with 29 seconds left. Chlupacek's 3-point shot was off the mark but Farr got the rebound and passed it to a wide open Johnson, The senior's shot swished the net with a second showing. It was the only shot Johnson made in the game.
Richardson blocked Annalee Bollinger's 3-point attempt at the buzzer to preserve the win.
The Panthers jumped out to an 18-4 lead after the first quarter. Brevard made just 2-of-16 shots in the period. The Tornados got within 10, 29-19, by halftime.
