Women's Basketball: Panthers down short-handed Salem 105-27
LaGrange College ran past short-handed Salem College 105-27 in a GSAC game Sunday at Mariotti Gym. The Panthers improved their GSAC record to 11-2 and overall to 15-6.
Heather Miller (Sarasota, Fla./Sarasota Christian) tied a season-high with 24 points, as the Panthers placed five players in double-figures. Miller was 9-of-13 shooting in the game, including 6-of-9 from 3-point range. Caroline Brashier (Marietta, Ga./Walker School) had a career-high 19 points, making 5-of-7 3s in the game.
Katie Covington (Savannah, Ga./Calvary Day School) had 12 points to extend her streak of games in double figures to 25. Kiah Britton (Boca Raton, Fla./St. Andrew School) and Anjelica Wilcox (Roswell, Ga./Norcross) both had double-doubles.
Britton had a career-high 11 points to go with 10 rebounds. Wilcox had a game-high 12 rebounds and added 10 points.
Salem (2-17, 0-12 GSAC) had only five players available for the game. Karoline Summerville led the Spirits with 10 points. Zy Henderson had eight points and rebounds each.
The Panthers set a school game record for margin of victory in beating the Spirits for the second time this season. The previous mark of 74 points was set in a 102-28 win against Wesleyan in 2008.
The Panthers set a single-game rebounding record for the second time this season. The Panthers outrebounded the Spirits 69-16 in the game. The total broke the mark of 66 set earlier in the season against Berry.
The Panthers never trailed in the game; scoring the first nine points. They led 32-8 midway through the first half and led 61-17 at the break. Miller had 18 of her 24 points in the half.
The Panthers shot 63.9 percent in the first half. They cooled off in the second half to finish the game shooting 53.9 percent. It was the best shooting game of the season for the Panthers.
The Panthers made 15-of-32 3-point attempts in the game. The 15 treys were the second most in a game by the Panthers.
The Panthers play at Piedmont on Wednesday in a GSAC game.
