Panthers fall to Berry in overtime, 86-85
Heather Miller led the Panthers with 22 points. She made a pair of free throws with two seconds left to send the game into overtime.
Along with Miller, the Panthers had four players in double figures. Elizabeth Williams had 15, while Katie Covington and Stefanie Schuck each had 14 points.
Holly Compton and Brittany Coughlan combined for 43 points to lead Berry. Compton led all scorers with 24 points and Coughlan added 19.
The Panthers went on a 20-2 run over a nine-minute span in the first half. Alex Wilson's 3-pointer put the Panthers up 34-13 with 5:13 left in the half.
Berry answered the Panthers' run with one of its own. The Lady Vikings out scored the Panthers 18-4 the rest of the half to trail 38-31.
The Lady Vikings continued their run into the second half with seven straight points to tie the game. The Panthers came back with a 12-0 spurt to go up 50-38.
The Panthers still led by 12, 55-43, after a 3-pointer by Miller with 10:30 left. The Lady Vikings chipped away at the lead and led 72-70 with a minute to play after Compton hit a 3-pointer.
Berry led 74-72 when Miller was fouled with two seconds left. The sophomore made both of the free throws to force overtime.
In the overtime, Berry took an 82-78 lead. Schuck hit a 3-pointer to draw the Panthers within one. The Lady Vikings led 86-83 when Schuck scored on a layup for the final 86-85 score.
The Panthers host Spelman in a GSAC game Tuesday. Game time is 6 p.m.
