Panther women fall to Maryville 79-69
MARYVILLE, Tenn. - Maryville handed LaGrange its second loss of the season, downing the Panthers 79-69 on Saturday at Boydson-Baird Gym. The Panthers dropped to 14-2 overall and 7-2 in the GSAC. The Lady Scots remained unbeaten in the GSAC, now 7-0 in the conference and 13-4 overall.
Maryville maintained its perfect record against LaGrange. The Lady Scots are 24-0 all-time against the Panthers.
Heather Miller tied with Maryville's Janell Manard for game scoring honors with 19 points. Miller had 15 in the first half, hitting 6-of-9 from the floor, including all three 3-point attempts.
Katie Covington had 18 points, while Stefanie Schuck added 11. Page Sevier had 15 points for the Lady Scots, making 3-of-4 3-point attempts.
The Panthers led 8-2 in the early going of the game. Maryville came back to lead 29-21 at one point before settling for a 39-34 halftime lead.
The Panthers brieflly took the lead early in the second half. Schuck's 3-pointer put the Panthers up 45-43. One minute later, Kiera Payne's layup gave Maryville the lead for good. The Lady Scots led by as many as 15 in the second half.
The Panthers shot 43 percent in the game, including making 6-of-12 3-point shots. Maryville shot 52 percent and made 8-of-15 3-point shots.
The Panthers were 11 of 17 at the free throw line. Maryville was 19 for 25. The Lady Scots had a 34-32 rebounding advantage.
The Panthers play at Berry on Monday in a non-conference game. Game time is 6 p.m.
