Southwestern pulls away from Panthers for 76-68 win

Valeree Williams led the Panthers with the team's first double-double of the season. She had team-highs of 17 points and 11 rebounds. Heather Miller followed with 15 points, making 3-of-5 3-point attempts.

The Panthers had a poor shooting first half and trailed 30-25. The Panthers shot 25 percent from the floor in the half. Miller and Williams each had 10 points in the first half.

The Panthers led briefly at the outset of the game. Miller put the Panthers up 24-21 with a 3-pointer with 5:26 left in the half. It was the largest lead of the game for the Panthers.

In the second half, the host Lady Pirates gradually built an 11-point lead. The Panthers chipped away at the lead. Miller tied the game at 43 with a pair of free throws, then gave the Panthers a 46-45 lead with a 3-pointer.

It was the only lead of the second half for the Panthers. Miller's trey tied the game for the last time at 53. Southwestern retook the lead and again built an 11 –point lead. Ashley Hoglund's three-pointer at the buzzer provided the 76-68 final score.

The Panthers play Austin on Saturday in their final tournament game. Tipoff is 3 p.m. CST.
