Panthers overcome slow start to down Covenant
Katie Covington led all scorers for the
Panthers with 22 points. Heather Miller added 12 points. Erika
Forland led the Lady Scots with 14 points.
The game had a total of 45 fouls and 51 turnovers between the two
teams. The Panthers held a 49-40 advantage in rebounding. The
Panthers also had a season-high 17 steals.
The Panthers trailed 20-15 with 7:18 left in the first half. They
outscored the Lady Scots 21-3 the rest of the half, to lead 36-23
at halftime. Miller's jumper put the Panthers ahead to stay, 23-21.
Three-point baskets by Ashley Hoglund and Stefanie Schuck helped
break the game open at the end of the half.
The Panthers never allowed Covenant to get any closer than 13
points in the second half. The Panthers led by as many as 23 in the
second half, the last on two free throws by Covington for a 67-44
lead.
The Panthers shot 40.6 percent in the second half, finishing the
game at 39.1 percent. The Panthers hit 6-of-14 of their 3-point
attempts in the game, with Hoglund having three of them. The Lady
Scots shot 35.1 percent in the game. They made only 6-of-23 of
their 3-point attempts.
The Panthers are off until Feb. 4 when they go on the road against
Spelman in a GSAC game. Game time is 6 p.m.
