Panthers down Blackburn in return from Christmas break
Katie Covington and
Cameren Farr led the Panthers with 13 points each. Covington missed
a double-double by a single rebound, finishing with a game-high
nine rebounds. Heather Miller hit four 3-pointers for her 12 points
and Stefanie Schuck added 10.
LaGrange shot 54.8 percent from the floor in the second half after
shooting 31 percent in the first half. The Panthers had their
poorest free throw shooting game. The Panthers hit only 18 of their
32 attempts from the line.
Despite the poor first half shooting, the Panthers led 34-31 at
halftime. The Panthers led by as many as eight points, 19-11, after
Kiah Britton hit a pair of free throws with 7:47 left in the half.
The Beavers chipped away at the deficit to trail by three at
halftime.
In the second half, Blackburn led 49-45 after an 11-3 run with
12:33 left in the game. Natalia Gregory, who had a game-high 18
points for the Beavers, started the run with a 3-pointer.
The Panthers came back an 11-0 run to take control of the game.
Ashley DeFreitas finished the run with back-to-back baskets off
turnovers for a 56-49 lead. Blackburn never got closer than five
points the rest of the way.
Farr completed a three-point play for a 65-55 lead with 7:26 left
in the game. She scored later off a layup to give the Panthers'
their largest lead, 74-61 with 3:13 left.
The Panthers host Berry in their final tournament game Tuesday at
4 p.m.
