Swimming: Tim Garnett has first place finish to lead Panthers at South Georgia College Invitational

The LaGrange swim teams competed in the South Georgia College Fall Invitational on Saturday. The teams swam against Point University, Thomas University, and host South Georgia College.

Freshman Tim Garnett was first in the 200-yard butterfly out-touching South Georgia's Ryan Davis by eight one hundredths of a second. Davis and Thomas' Casey Pridgen, who was third, were competitors in the finals of last year's NAIA National Championship meets. Garnett dropped nearly four seconds off his time from last week's time at the Sewanee Invitational.

Senior Ben Fuller swam season-best times in the 200 freestyle, 100, and 200 butterfly events. Fuller put up some impressive relay splits according to Coach Chip Aplin.

Senior Mitchell Cross came close to setting lifetime bests with second place finishes in the 100 butterfly and 100 breaststroke events. Sophomore Hiram Haro-Oropeza and junior John Lynch swam in their first meet of the season after finishing the cross country season.

For the women, Alex Bromby had a season best time in the 200 breaststroke and a lifetime best time of 2:23.39 in the 200 freestyle. Elissa Fuller swam lifetime bests in each of her events for the second consecutive week.

The teams host the Panther Invitational on Saturday at 12 p.m.
