Swimming: Teams compete at Birmingham-Southern Invitational

The LaGrange swims teams competed at the Birmingham-Southern Invitational on Saturday. The Panther teams swam against teams from Birmingham-Southern, Brenau, Darton and Thomas.

Junior Mary Robertson was the women's team Swimmer of the Meet. Robertson set a new personal time of 3:11.62 in the women's 200-yard individual medley, taking six seconds off her previous best. She earned seven points for the team.

For the men, senior Joe Strickland was the Swimmer of the Meet. Strickland earned nine points by dropping 8.89 seconds off his best mark in the men's 200-yard individual medley. He finished with a time of 2:59.75.

Freshman Mitchell Cross was the men's high point winner with 23 points. He set a new personal best with a time of 2:09.69 in the men's 200 individual medley. Senior Becky Robertson earned 14 points to be the high point scorer for the women.

Junior Madison Brasselle had a strong showing in the 500 and 1,000-yard freestyle events. She had a season-best time of 6:15.22 in the 500 freestyle.

Freshmen Evan Brasselle and Will Scruggs had personal bests in the 100 and 200-yard freestyle along with the 100 backstroke.

The Panther teams will finish their season Feb. 14-16 at the Appalachian Swimming Conference Championships in Barbourville, Ky.
