Swimming: Panthers open season with strong showing at Berry

ROME, Ga. - The LaGrange swim team opened its 2012-12 season with a double dual meet against Berry and King. The Panthers set five new team records in the meet.

Freshman Catie Cobb took first place in 100-yard butterfly, setting a new team record with a time of 1:03.78, Cobb also swam for a second place finish in the 500 freestyle.

Freshman Ben Fuller took first place in the 500 freestyle, setting a new team record with a time of 5:18.36. Senior Becky Robertson took first place in the women's 100 freestyle with a time of 1:01.69.

Freshman Mitchell Cross set team records in both of his events, the 100-yard butterfly and 100 breaststroke. He took second place in both events with a time of 54.91 seconds in the butterfly and 1:05.41 in the breaststroke.

The women's 200 medley relay of Chandler Norris, Haley Dent, Catie Cobb and Becky Robertson took second place and broke the team record set in 2001 by seven seconds with a time of 2:03.38. The 400 freestyle relay team of  Norris, Sara Morton, Krysta Tatara and Madison Brasselle took second place with a time of 4:32.99 to finish the meet.

Madison Brasselle swam for a personal best in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 12:47.87, over a 19 second drop. She set a new personal record in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:38.54.

The men's 200 medley relay of Cross, Blake Shuler, Ben Fuller and Joe Strickland took fourth place.
