MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Huntingdon took both ends of a USA South doubleheader from LaGrange on Wednesday. The Hawks (12-22, 11-7 USA South) won the first game 6-2 and held on for a 3-2 win in the second game. The Panthers are now 7-19 overall and 6-12 in conference play.
The Panthers took a 2-0 lead in the second inning on a two-run single by McKenzie Brunel. Brunel's hit scored Taylor Tallant and Kelsey Dietz. Tallant had two doubles in the game. Chelsea Twardoski started and pitched 3-2/3 innings. She gave up the six runs, but none were earned. Emily Cauldwell went the final 2-1/3 innings without give up a run and allowing just one hit.
Twardoski pitched five strong innings, giving up three runs on four hits. Cauldwell threw two more scoreless innings of relief. The Panthers tied the game 1-1 in the fourth inning. Katelin Richardson's RBI single drove in Emily Barrs, who walked to lead off the inning. Trailing 3-1 heading to the seventh, the Panthers drew within a run. Richardson scored on Adrienne Little's sacrifice to make it a one-run game, but Huntingdon was able to hold on to the lead and secure the win.
The Panthers close out their USA South schedule with doubleheaders at Agnes Scott on Saturday and Wesleyan on Sunday.
