RALEIGH, N.C. - LaGrange split a USA South doubleheader with East Division leader Meredith on Sunday. The Panthers took the first game 7-4, with the Avenging Angels winning the second game 3-1.
Chelsea Twardoski (7-9) threw two complete games for LaGrange (7-17, 6-10 USA South). In the first game, she scattered nine hits, walked two, struck out two and only one of the runs were earned. Twardoski gave up eight hits and the three runs in the second game.
The Panthers used a four-run sixth inning to erase a 2-1 Meredith lead. Adrienne Little had an RBI double to drive in the first run in the seventh. Grayson West walked with the bases loaded in the inning and again in the seventh as LC added two insurance runs. The Panthers finished the game with 10 hits. Amber Arnold had three RBIs and was one of three Panthers with two hits. Twardoski and McKenzie Brunel also had two hits.
Meredith's Julia Cerasi and Twardoski had a pitching duel in the second game. The Avenging Angels (19-13, 12-4 USA South) built a 3-0 lead through six innings. The Panthers avoided the shutout in the seventh inning. Sydney Hodorff reached on an error that allowed pinch-runner Maegan Harrison to score. Emily Barrs had two of LC's four hits in the game.
The Panthers play a USA South doubleheader at Huntingdon on Wednesday.
