Softball: Panthers headed to Atlanta to face No. 7 Emory in first game of NCAA Tournament

The LaGrange softball team learned Monday of its destination for the upcoming NCAA Division III national tournament . The Panthers (25-14) will play seventh-ranked Emory (31-7) in Atlanta in their first game. The time and date for the game will be announced later.

The Panthers last faced Emory during the 2013 season, splitting a doubleheader in LaGrange. The Panthers have played the Eagles in the NCAA tournament twice, winning 2-1 in 2008 and losing 1-0 in 2009.

The Panthers are playing in their fourth NCAA national tournament and first since 2009. They received the automatic bid after winning the USA South Tournament on April 19.

Joining the Panthers in Atlanta are No. 19 Averett (34-3-1) and Berry (32-6). Averett is also a member of the USA South conference. The Panthers defeated the Cougars 3-2 in an 11-inning battle in the conference tournament. The Cougars won both regular season meetings. The Panthers have not faced Berry since the 2013 season.
