Softball: Five-run inning propels Panthers past Greensboro and into USA South Tournament title game

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - LaGrange used a five-run fourth inning and went on to beat Greensboro 8-1 and advance to the title game of the USA South Touranment.

The Panthers (22-13) once again got another outstanding pitching effort from senior Olivia Wolfe. Wolfe (12-8) threw her third straight complete game; scattering six hits, walking one and striking out two.

Wolfe was backed by a 14-hit attack. Dani Gravett was 3-for-3 with three runs scored and three RBIs. Emily Barrs was one of five Panthers with two hits and also drove in three runs.

Barrs gave the Panthers a 1-0 lead in the first inning with a two-out double that scored Gravett, who had walked. Greensboro answered in their half of the inning to tie the game 1-1.

It remained tied until the fourth. The Panthers loaded the bases with three straight singles. Gravett ripped a two-run single to break the tie. Danielle Newbern followed with a double to drive in two more runs and Barrs' sacrifice fly scored Newbern to make it 6-1.

Barrs' RBI single in the sixth and Gravett's run-scoring base hit in the seventh closed out the scoring for the Panthers. 

The Panthers will face the survivor of the loser's bracket Sunday at 9 a.m.
