Softball: Panthers get back on track by sweeping Greensboro in USA South doubleheader

LaGrange stopped a four-game skid by sweeping Greensboro 3-0 and 7-2 in a USA South doubleheader Sunday. The Panthers are now 14-10 and 9-7 in conference play.

The Panthers got back-to-back complete game pitching performances from Olivia Wolfe and Dani Gravett.

Wolf (7-7) recorded her second shutout of the season in the first game. She scattered five hits, struck out five and walked five. Gravett (5-1) carried a shutout into the sixth inning of the second game. She allowed seven hits, walked only one and struck out five.

In the first game, Alison Jiles' two-out single in the third put the Panthers up 1-0. They added a run the fifth on an RBI double by Garrett and closed out the scoring when Kalin Oglesby's two-out bunt single scored Brooke Turner.

The Panthers jumped out to a 6-0 lead after two innings of the second game. Wolfe and Turner had two-out run-scoring singles in the first.

In the second, the Panthers batted around in scoring four times. Gravett drove in the first two runs with a triple to the wall in center and scored also on the play when the throw from the outfield went into the Greensboro dugout. Danielle Newbern followed with a double to left center and later scored as Wolfe grounded out to third.

The Panthers got their final run in the sixth inning. Gravett got her third RBI of the game with one-out single to drive in Adrienne Little.

The Panthers had 11 hits in the game, with Oglesby leading the way with three.

The Panthers host Maryville in a USA South doubheader Saturday at 12 p.m.
