Softball: Folds selected to GSAC all-conference team

Junior pitcher Kayla Folds was selected to the 2012 Great South Athletic Conference All-Conference team as announced by the conference office. Folds also earned GSAC All-Academic honors for the second straight year.

Folds was 9-14 this season, leading the GSAC with a 1.66 ERA. She struck out 124 batters in 148 innings of work, throwing 17 complete games, eight shutouts and recording a save. Folds led the Panthers in 12 team pitching categories.

Shortstop Danielle Newbern was named to the GSAC All-Freshman team. Newbern was the only player to play in and start all 39 games for the Panthers this season. She was second on the team with a .275 batting average and had a home run and 12 RBIs.

Joining Folds on the GSAC All-Academic team were sophomore Courtney Beshel and junior Hanna Patterson. Like Folds, it was the second straight year for Patterson to earn all-academic honors.
