LaGrange finished the GSAC portion of its 2012 season with a sweep of Spelman on Thursday at the LaGrange College Softball Complex. The Panthers won the first game 15-0, then completed the sweep with a 13-1 win in the second game. Both games ended after five innings because of the mercy rule.
The wins evened the Panthers' conference record at 8-8 and upped their overall record to 13-21. Spelman dropped to 1-26 overall and 0-16 in the GSAC.
The Panthers got complete game pitching in both games from Kayla Folds and Lacee Landrum. Folds (8-12) threw a two-hit shutout in the first game. She struck out eight and did not walk a batter. Landrum (5-5) allowed an unearned run on three hits, did not walk a batter and struck out five.
The Panthers finished the doubleheader with 24 hits. Jordan Berryman was 5-for-7, with two doubles, in the two games. Berryman scored three runs and had four RBIs.
Lindsey Hogan was 4-for-6 with five runs scored and a perfect 5-for-5 in stolen bases. Kate Smith had three hits and also scored five runs. Danielle Newbern was 4-for-4 with a triple, three runs scored and an RBI.
The Panthers scored in every at-bat in the two games. They broke the first game open with seven runs in the third inning to go up 12-0. In the second game, the Panthers scored nine runs in the second inning to build an 11-0 lead.
