Softball: GSAC-leading Huntingdon sweeps Panthers

MONTGOMERY, Ala.- Huntingdon remained unbeaten in the GSAC with a sweep of LaGrange on Tuesday. The Lady Hawks won the first game 4-0 then held off a last inning rally by the Panthers to take the second game 3-2.

Bree Giordana held the Panthers (11-21, 6-8 GSAC) to just one hit in the first game. She walked two and struck out nine. Danielle Newbern had the only hit for the Panthers.

Kayla Folds started and took the loss for the Panthers. Folds allowed all four runs in five innings of work. She did not walk a batter and struck out three. Amanda Stukel pitched a scoreless inning.

In the second game, the Lady Hawks did all of their scoring in the third inning off Lacee Landrum. Only one of the three runs was earned in the inning.

Huntingdon took the 3-0 lead to the seventh inning. Hanna Patterson reached on an error to start the inning. Courtney Beshel followed with a double down the left field line sending pinch-runner Lindsey Hogan to third base.

Laura Webber grounded out to second as Hogan scored the Panthers' first run. Beshel came home as Mallory Muncher grounded out to short to make it 3-2. Melissa McClure ended the game by getting Jordan Conner to also ground out for the third out.

The Panthers had four hits in the game. In addition to Beshel, Kelbi Burgering also had a double.

The Panthers close out the regular season April 18 at home against Spelman.
