Softball: Panthers sweep GSAC doubleheader from Covenant

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. - Kayla Folds pitched and batted LaGrange to a sweep of a GSAC doubleheader of Covenant on Saturday. The Panthers won the first game 1-0 then completed the sweep with an 8-1 win in the second game.

The Panthers have won four straight games to even their GSAC record at 6-6. They improved their season record to 10-18.

Folds (5-11) pitched a complete game in the first game. She scattered eight hits, did not walk a batter and struck out nine.

The Panthers scored the only run of the game in the third inning. With two outs, Emmie Trull and Kelbi Burgering had back-to-back singles. Both runners moved up on a passed ball and Trull scored on a throwing error on the play.

Folds worked out of a bases loaded jam in the second inning. The Scots stranded two more runners in the fourth. In the seventh, with runners on first and second, Folds struck out Beth Harris to end the game.

In the second game, Lacee Landrum (3-4) gave up only an unearned run in the first inning. She allowed five hits, walked three and struck out seven.

The Panthers erupted for five runs in the third inning. They loaded the bases as Christy Flick led off with a single, Megan Wadsworth reached on an error and Trull had a base hit.

Burgering followed with a base hit to score Flick with the tying run. Folds followed with a triple to center field to clear the bases and a 4-1 lead. Courtney Beshel grounded out to score Folds to make it 5-1.

The Panthers scored a run in each of the last three innings. Folds had an RBI single in the fifth. Pinch-runner Lindsey Hogan scored on a wild pitch in the sixth and Beshel's run-scoring single in the seventh closed out the scoring.
