LaGrange rolled past Wesleyan 15-0 and 16-0 in a GSAC doubleheader Wednesday at the LaGrange College Softball Complex. The sweep improved the Panthers' record to 8-18 overall and 4-6 in the GSAC.
The Panthers needed only five innings in each game to take care of the Pioneers (4-8, 2-4 GSAC). Both games ended on the 8-run mercy rule.
Lacee Landrum (2-3) completed the sweep with a no-hitter in the second game. The Pioneers only runner was in the second inning as Shay Jones reached after being hit by a pitch. Landrum did not walk a batter and struck out five.
In the first game, Kayla Folds struck out 11 of the first 12 batters she faced. Tricia Valasco spoiled Folds' bid for a perfect game and no-hitter with a lead-off single in the fifth. Valasco was erased on a double play and Folds finished the game with her 12th strike out.
The Panthers had 12 hits in the first game. Folds and Kelbi Burgering each had two hits. Burgering scored four runs and drove in two more. Emmie Trull's double was the Panthers' only extra base hit, while Hanna Patterson had three RBIs.
The Panthers gave Folds all the runs she needed with four in the first inning. The Panthers scored in each of their four at-bats.
The Panthers took a 2-0 lead in the first inning of the second game. They exploded for 14 runs in the second inning to close out their scoring for the night.
The Panthers had 12 hits again in the second game. Burgering, Christy Flick and Megan Wing each had two hits. Courtney Beshel had a double, scored two runs and was one of five Panthers to have two RBIs in the game.
