LaGrange celebrated Senior Day on Saturday afternoon at the LaGrange College Softball Complex, honoring Emmie Trull and Lacee Landrum. The Panthers (6-16, 2-6 GSAC) split with Agnes Scott (8-6, 3-3 GSAC) in a Great South Athletic Conference doubleheader. The Panthers won the first game 1-0 in eight innings and the Scotties took the second game 8-0.
The first game was a pitchers' duel between the Panthers' Kayla Folds (3-10) and Agnes Scott's Chelsea Kremer. Folds allowed just three hits and struck out eight batters in getting her seventh complete game of the season.
LaGrange recorded nine total hits, with four of them coming in the eighth inning. In the eighth, Kelbi Burgering led off with a single followed up by a base hit from Danielle Newbern. With Newbern and Burgering on first and second, Megan Wing dropped in a base hit to right field, loading the bases for Laura Webber. Webber had a line drive into left center to score Burgering with the winning run.
Newbern, Hanna Patterson and Megan Wing had two hits each for the Panthers. Newbern's double was the only extra base hit in the game by either team.
Agnes Scott took a 1-0 lead in the first inning of the second game. The Scotties added two runs each in the fourth and fifth innings to make it 5-0. They closed out the scoring in the sixth with three runs for the 8-0 final.
Landrum (1-3) took the loss in the second game. She pitched six innings, allowing all eight runs, but only three were earned. Landrum did not walk a batter and struck out two.
The Panthers play at Emory on Sunday in a doubleheader beginning at noon.
