Softball: Piedmont takes GSAC doubleheader from Panthers

DEMOREST, Ga. - Brittany Head pitched Piedmont past LaGrange on Wednesday at Walker Field in a GSAC doubleheader. The Lady Lions (8-6, 5-1 GSAC) swept the Panthers (5-15, 1-5) 7-1  and 1-0.

Head pitched back-to-back complete games. She allowed the one run and eight hits in the two games. Head walked one batter and struck out 12.

Kayla Folds started both games for the Panthers. She allowed three runs on seven hits in the first game, then came back to allow the one unearned run in six innings in the second game.

Piedmont gave Head all the runs she needed in the first game with three in the third inning. The Lady Lions added four more runs in the sixth off Lacee Landrum and Amanda Stukel.

The Panthers avoided the shutout in the seventh inning. Kelbi Bugering led off the inning with a single and moved up to second with two outs. Hanna Patterson drove in Burgering with a single for the 7-1 final.

In the second game, the Lady Lions got their only run in the third inning. Courtney Clark singled with one out and came all the way around to score on an error on the play.

The Panthers stranded a runner at second in the second and fifth innings. Head retired the last eight batters to close out the game for Piedmont.

The Panthers host Agnes Scott on Saturday in a GSAC doubleheader.
