Snapping a four-game losing streak, the Panther offense dominated visting Rhodes College, 4-0, in game one of an afternoon double-header on Saturday. LaGrange was unable to come back from an early deficit in game two, resulting in a split with the Lynx.
In game one, the Panthers recorded their first run in the third inning as secondbaseman Hannah Paterson collected her third RBI of the season, advancing catcher Megan Wadsworth across the plate.
The LaGrange offense would stay quiet until the sixth inning, as three more runs were scored. Thirdbaseman Laura Webber started the Panther rally with a one-out single to centerfield. With Lindsey Hogan pinch running for Webber, shortstop Danielle Newbern reached on a Rhodes error, putting Hogan in scoring position. Rightfielder Courtney Beshel knocked both Hogan and Newbern in on a triple to left field. The third run of the inning was scored by Beshel, on a single to center by leftfielder Christy Flick.
Senior Lacee Landrum struck out six batters and collected her first win of the season on the mound for LaGrange.
The Panther offense ran out of steam in game two, as the Lynx struck early in the first inning, eventually claiming a 2-0 victory.
Recording the team's only multi-base hit of the game was center fielder Kelbi Burgering, who led off the Panther first inning with a double. Burgering also recorded a team high of two hits, while Patterson, Beshel and Kayla Folds each added one.
On the mound for the Panthers was Folds, who pitched all seven innings, striking out five batters. She recorded just one earned run while the other Rhodes score occured on a LaGrange error.
The Panthers will host Berry College in a doubleheader on Saturday, March 17. The games are scheduled for 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
