Softball: Panthers lose two to Georgia Southwestern

Georgia Southwestern took two games from LaGrange on Sunday at the LaGrange College Softball Complex. The NCAA Division II Hurricanes won the first game 2-0, then completed the sweep of the doubleheader with a 7-1 second game win.

The Panthers fell to 3-7 on the season. The Panthers are off until Saturday when they travel to Maryville (Tenn.) for a GSAC doubleheader against the Lady Scots.

Georgia Southwestern (10-10) won the first game behind the one-hit pitching of Jessica Martin. Martin walked four and struck out nine. The Hurricanes were helped by five Panther errors in the game. She allowed only a one-out hit to Megan Wing in the seventh inning.

Kayla Folds (1-4) scattered four hits in 5-1/3 innings, allowing an unearned run. Folds walked one and struck out two. Amanda Stukel finished the game, also allowing an unearned run and two hits.

The Hurricanes took a 3-0 lead in the first inning off starter Christy Flick (1-2). Flick allowed three earned runs before being relieved by Folds with two outs in the first. Folds allowed four runs; three earned, in 4-2/3 innings. Stukel again finished, allowing two hits in 1-2/3 innings.

The Panthers scored their run in the second inning. Kelbi Burgering had a one-out single to left center and moved up to second on a passed ball. Jordan Berryman brought home Burgering with a two-out single to make it 4-1.

The Panthers had six hits in the second game. Hanna Patterson had two of the five hits.
