DECATUR, Ga. - LaGrange stopped a four-game losing streak with a doubleheader sweep of Agnes Scott (4-3) on Sunday. The Panthers (3-5) won the first game 5-3 and completed the sweep with a 7-4 second game win.
The Panthers had 21 hits in the two games. Hanna Patterson went 4-for-7 in the doubleheader. The Panthers had five players with three hits each, including Laura Webber, who had a home run, and Danielle Newbern, who had four RBIs.
The Panthers trailed 3-2 heading to the sixth inning. Kelbi Burgering led off with a single and Webber followed with her first home of the season to put the Panthers up 4-3. The Panthers added an insurance run later in the inning as Courtney Beshel scored on Newbern's infield hit.
In the second game, the Panthers spotted the Scotties a 2-0 first inning lead. They answered by scoring all seven of their runs in the top of the second.
Kelbi Burgering opened the inning with a double, followed by an RBI single from Christy Flick. With two outs, Beshel drove in Flick with the tying run and Patterson's base hit put the Panthers up 3-2.
The Panthers loaded the bases for Newbern, who cleared them with a triple to make it 6-2. Webber closed out the scoring in the inning with a run-scoring single to increase the Panthers' lead to 7-2.
Agnes Scott closed the gap to 7-4 with a run in the fifth and another in the seventh. With runners on second and third and no outs, Flolds relieved Stukel. Folds struck out the first two batters, then got a pop up to end the game.
The Panthers host Birmingham-Southern next Saturday in a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
