The Great South Athletic Conference announced its 2011 softball awards Thursday. LaGrange had three players selected to the all-conference team, seven to the all-academic team and two to the all-freshman team.
Senior outfielder Katie Hein was selected to the GSAC All-Conference team for the fourth straight year. She batted .414 with two home runs and 16 RBIs. Hein was a perfect 11-for-11 in stolen bases.
Hein was joined on the all-conference team by seniors Katie Ison and Kristen Woodard. Ison, an outfielder, was selected for the third straigh year. She batted .398 with 10 RBIs and led the team with 15 stolen bases. Woodard was also selected for the third year as one of the all-conference pitchers. She was 4-4 with a 1.71 ERA and had four complete games.
Hein earned GSAC All-Academic honors for the third straight year. She was joined on the team by: Becca Abernathy, Shanna Brumbelow, Kayla Folds, Danielle LaDuron, Hanna Patterson and Denise Van Rijst. LaDuron earned all-academic honors for the third straight year. Brumbelow and Van Rijst are on the team for the second straight year.
Courtney Beshel and Audrey Fortmann were selected to the GSAC All-Freshman team. Beshel batted .347 and tied for the team lead with four home runs and 19 RBIs. Fortmann batted .333 in 13 games, with three starts at second base.
