Softball: Panthers edge Covenant to gain split of doubleheader

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. - Courtney Beshel and Shanna Brumbelow led LaGrange to a 3-2 second game win and a split of a doubleheader at Covenant on Friday. The Lady Scots won the first game 1-0.

In the second game, Beshel hit her fourth home run of the season and scored the go-ahead run on Brumbelow's third hit of the game. The split gave the Panthers a 20-15 record for the season.

Trailing 1-0, Beshel gave the Panthers the lead in the third inning. Olivia McGehee led off with a single and Beshel followed with her home run to left center and a 2-1 lead.

After Covenant tied the game in the fourth inning, the Panthers answered in the top of the fifth. Beshel led off the inning with a single and moved up to second on Megan Wing's ground out. Brumbelow doubled to left center, driving in Beshel with the go-ahead run.

Kayla Folds (6-5) made the lead hold up. Folds retired all 10 batters she faced after relieving Kristen Woodard in the fourth inning.

Woodard (4-3) took the loss in the first game as the Lady Scots pushed across the game's only run in the sixth inning. Woodard gave up nine hits and did not strike out or walk a batter.

The Panthers close out the regular season by hosting Emory on Tuesday for Senior Night.
