MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Courtney Beshel's second home run of the game, a three-run blast, capped a five-run seventh inning rally as LaGrange beat Huntingdon 7-6 to gain a split of a doubleheader Tuesday. Huntingdon won the first game 3-0.
The Panthers (13-8) trailed 5-2 entering the top of the seventh in the second game. The Panthers cut the lead to 5-4 as pinch-runner Emmie Trull scored on an error and a sacrifice fly by Katie Hein scored Katie Ison.
Megan Wing reached on an infield hit and Kate Smith entered the game as a pinch-runner. Becca Abernathy walked and both runners moved up on a ground out. Beshel followed with a three-run home run off Melissa McClure (8-4) for a 7-5 lead.
Huntingdon (13-7) got an unearned run in the bottom of the seventh to get within a run, 7-6, but Kayla Folds (4-2) got the final out to seal the win.
Beshel went 3-for-4 in the game with the two home runs and a double. She has three home runs in the last three games, two of them game-winners.
Huntingdon led 3-0 after three innings. Beshel got the Panthers on the board in the fourth with her first home run. Katie Ison tripled and scored on an error on the play in the fifth to make it 3-2. The Lady Hawks padded their lead to 5-2 with two runs in their half of the fifth.
Kristen Woodard started for the Panthers and went five innings. She allowed five runs; four earned, on just three hits. Woodard walked four and did not strike out a batter.
Folds took the loss in the first game, pitching six innings and not allowing an earned run. She gave up only two hits, walked two and struck out three.
Huntingdon got all of its runs and hits in second inning. The Panthers had four hits in the game off McClure, who went the distance.
The Panthers host Wesleyan on Friday in a doubleheader beginning at 5:30.
