Freshman Courtney Beshel hit a walk-off solo home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to give LaGrange a 6-5 win and a split of its doubleheader Sunday with Berry at the LaGrange College Softball Complex. The Vikings (15-7) won the first game 7-0.
The Panthers (12-7) trailed 4-0 after four innings of the second game. They trailed 5-1 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning.
The Panthers scored four runs in the sixth to tie the game 5-5. Kayla Folds (1-for-1, R, RBI) drove in the first run with a pinch-hit single. Katie Ison (3-for-4, 2R, RBI) followed Folds with a run-scoring single. With two outs and runners on second and third, Katie Hein (2-for-3, 2RBI) tied the game with a single down the left field line.
Beshel ended the game with one out in the seventh inning with her first collegiate home run, a drive to center field. The home run came off reliever Caillee Shamoun, who had blanked the Panthers in the first game.
Folds (3-1), the fifth Panther pitcher of the game, pitched a scorless seventh inning to get the win. Kristen Woodard started and pitched two innings, allowing a run on four hits and striking out a batter.
In the first game, Lacey Herring hit three home runs to power the Vikings past the Panthers. Herring opened the scoring with a three-run inside the park home run in the third inning. She had solo home runs in the fifth and seventh innings.
Lacee Landrum (2-3) went the distance in taking the loss for the Panthers. Landrum gave up six earned runs, walked three and struck out two.
Shamoun held the Panthers to five hits in the game, walked one and struck out four. Megan Wing had two of the Panthers' five hits. Ison had a double in three at-bats.
The Panthers play at Huntingdon on Tuesday in a doubleheader.
