MACON, Ga. - LaGrange ran its GSAC record to 4-0 with a sweep of Wesleyan on Wednesday. The Panthers, 10-5 overall, won the first game 15-0 and the second 26-1. Both games ended after five innings due to the 8-run rule.
Becca Abernathy was 4-for-6 with four runs scored and five RBIs in the doubleheader. In the last six games, Abernathy is batting .625 with 10 RBIs. She leads the team with 14 RBIs and a .500 batting average.
Abernathy was 3-for-4 in the first game, with two doubles and a triple, driving in four runs. Denise Van Rijst had a pair of singles and four RBIs also in the game.
The Panthers did all of their scoring in the first and third innings. Abernathy had a two-run double, while Van Rijst added a two-run single as part of a seven-run first inning.
In the third inning, the Panthers closed out the scoring with eight more runs. Katie Hein had a two-run double in the inning. The Panthers finished with 13 hits in the game.
Kristen Woodard (2-1) allowed only two hits in five innings. She walked three and struck out six.
The Panthers scored in all five innings of the second game, including a 10-run third inning. Jordan Berryman had two hits, including a double, and four RBIs. Hanna Patterson had two hits and three RBIs. Kate Smith was 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs.
Danielle LaDuron (2-1) started and pitched three scoreless innings to get the win. She did not allow a hit or a walk and struck out five. Lacee Landrum gave up a run in two innings, two hits, did not walk a batter and struck out two.
The Panthers host Maryville in a GSAC doubleheader Saturday. They also host Berry on Sunday.
