Softball: Panthers edged by DePauw in 10 innings

Nationally-ranked DePauw pushed across the only run of the game in the 10th inning to edge LaGrange 1-0 on Monday at the LaGrange College Softball Complex.

The Panthers (8-5) had their eight-game winning streak stopped. The seventh-ranked Tigers improved to 8-1 this season.

Kayla Folds, the fourth Panther pitcher in the game, took the loss. Folds (2-1) allowed the one run in six innings. She scattered four hits, did not walk a batter and struck out three.

Emily Bichler (8-1) pitched the entire 10 innings to get the win for DePauw. She allowed 10 hits, did not walk a batter and struck out five.

Megan Wing, Shanna Brumbelow and Courtney Beshel all had two hits for the Panthers. Wing and Brumbelow each had a double. Emma Minx had four of the Tigers' 10 hits.

DePauw left the bases loaded twice in the game. The Tigers stranded 15 runners in the game.

The Panthers left 11 on base in the game. The Panthers had three hits in the bottom of the seventh but could not push across a run.

The Tigers got the winning run in the 10th inning as Holly Paris reached on a fielder's choice, allowing pinch-runner Samantha Syska to score.

In the bottom of the inning, the Panthers put runners on the corners with one out after Katie Hein's single moved Beshel over to third.

Hein stole second to put runners on second and third. Bichler retired Wing and Becca Abernathy to end the game.

The Panthers play at Wesleyan on Wednesday before hosting Maryville and Berry on Friday and Saturday.
