LaGrange limited Rust to two hits as the Panthers swept a doubleheader from the Bearcats 12-0 and 11-0 at the LaGrange College Softball Complex on Saturday. Both games ended after five innings because the mercy rule.
The Panthers (8-4) have won eight in a row. They will put their win streak on the line Monday as they host nationally-ranked DePauw in a single game at 4 p.m.
Danielle LaDuron (1-1) went four innings in the first game to get the win. She allowed a hit, did not walk a batter and had a career-high 10 strikeouts. Amanda Stukel pitched a scoreless fifth inning to close out the win.
In the second game, Shanna Brumbelow (2-0) did not allow a hit in four innings, walked two and struck out eight. Stukel gave up a hit in the fifth and struck out two to finish the sweep.
The Panthers had 22 hits in the doubleheader. Becca Abernathy was 4-for-4, including a double, with three runs scored and two RBI. Courtney Beshel and Katie Ison each had three hits. Beshel also had three RBI.
