ATLANTA, Ga. - LaGrange ran its winning streak to six games with a sweep of Spelman in a GSAC doubleheader on Thursday.
The Panthers (6-4, 2-0 GSAC) won the first game 14-4 and completed the sweep over the Jaguars (0-6, 0-2 GSAC) with a 17-1 win in the second game. Both games ended after five innings because of the 8-run mercy rule.
Kayla Folds (2-0) pitched a complete game in the first game. Folds allowed the four runs, only two were earned. She scattered six hits, did not walk a batter and struck out seven.
Lacee Landrum (2-2) got the win in the second game. She allowed a run in three innings, walking none and striking out four. Danielle LaDuron pitched the final two innings, allowing a hit and striking out five.
The Panthers did all of their scoring in the first game in the first inning. The Panthers scored their 14 runs on just three hits in the inning, sending 19 batters to the plate. Abernathy drove in two runs with a single, while Quesada added a two-run double.
In the second game, the Panthers jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the first inning. Abernathy drove in the first two runs with a base hit. Denise Van Rijst (2-for-4, 2 R, 4 RBI) capped the inning with a bases-loaded double for the final three runs of the inning.
The Panthers added five more runs on six hits in the second to go up 14-0. Courtney Beshel (2-for-2, 2 R, 2 RBI) had a run-scoring double in the inning.
The Panthers closed out their scoring with two runs in the fourth inning and another in the fifth. Jordan Berryman (1-for-2, RBI) had a RBI single in the fifth. Olivia McGehee (0-for-0, RBI) walked with the bases loaded to drive in Emmie Trull (2-for-3, 2 R, RBI) with the Panthers final run.
The Panthers host Rust in doubleheaders Saturday and Sunday.
