Softball: Panthers sweep Covenant 5-3 and 6-3 to even season record

LaGrange ran its winning streak to four games as the Panthers swept Covenant on Saturday at the LaGrange College Softball Complex. The Panthers (4-4) won the first game 5-3, then finished the sweep with a 6-3 game two win.

Kristen Woodard (1-1) threw a complete game in the first game. Woodard gave up two earned runs, four hits, walked one and struck out two.

The Panthers had 10 hits in the first game. Becca Abernathy, Shanna Brumbelow and Katie Ison all had two hits in the game.

Covenant (4-2) took a 2-0 lead in the first game. The Panthers came back with three runs in the third inning to go up 3-2. Abernathy's two-run single capped the inning.

The Lady Scots tied the game 3-3 with a run in the sixth inning. The Panthers answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning. Ison's double drove in Kayla  Grizzle with the go-ahead run. Megan Wing drove in an insurance run with a two-out hit up the middle.

The Panthers led 2-1 heading into the bottom of the fourth inning of the second game. They scored four runs in the inning, all with two outs, to make it 6-1. Hannah Patterson started the rally with a single and later scored on a wild pitch.

Kayla Folds doubled to left center, driving in Emmie Trull. Hein finished the inning with a two-run double to left center, scoring Ison and Folds.

Brumbelow started and went three innings of the second game, giving up an unearned run. Folds (1-0) gave up two unearned runs in two innings to get the win. Lacee Landrum allowed a hit in two innings to get her first save of the year.

The Panthers play at Spelman next Friday, before hosting Rust on Saturday.
