Georgia Southwestern swept a doubleheader from LaGrange at the LaGrange College Softball Complex on Saturday. The Lady Hurricanes (9-11) won the first game 1-0 and the second game 4-3 in eight innings.
The Panthers (0-4) had 17 hits in the two games. Megan Wing was a perfect 4-for-4 in the second game with two RBIs.
Kristen Woodard (0-1) pitched a complete game two-hitter in the first game. She allowed only the one unearned run, while walking one and striking out two.
The Panthers had nine hits in the first game and left 11 runners on base in the game. The Panthers left the bases loaded in the sixth inning and left two runners on in three other innings.
The Panthers took a 2-0 lead in the third inning of the second game, breaking a scoreless streak of 26-1/3 innings dating back to the final game of the 2010 season. Wing drove in both runs with a two-out single, scoring Ison and Katie Hein.
Georgia Southwestern tied the game off reliever Kayla Folds in the fourth inning. The Lady Hurricanes took a 3-2 lead in the seventh inning.
The Panthers loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh on an error, a walk and a base hit. Laura Webber reached on a fielder's choice to score Hein with the tying run.
The Lady Hurricanes pushed across the winning run in the top of the eighth inning off Brumbelow (0-1), who relieved Folds. The Panthers were retired in order in their half of the eighth.
The Panthers will play in the Maryville Invitational next Saturday and Sunday.
