Panthers celebrate Senior Night with sweep of Wesleyan

Hazelwood, Valeree Williams and Kayla Yeargin were honored between
games. The trio have been a part of two co-GSAC regular season
titles, three straight GSAC tournament titles and three straight
NCAA Division III National Tournament bids.
The Panthers had 23 hits in sweeping the Pioneers (2-26, 2-10 GSAC)
for the second time this season. Hazelwood had six hits in the two
games, including 4-for-4 in the second game. Katie Ison had five
hits and four RBIs in the doubleheader.
Shanna Brumbelow (7-5) and Kayla Folds combined to throw a
two-hitter in the first game. Brumbelow allowed a hit in three
innings, while striking out five and not walking a batter. Folds
also allowed a hit and struck out two.
Kristen Woodard (8-5) threw four innings in the second game to get
the win. She allowed four hits and struck out five. Danielle
LaDuron retired the side in the fifth inning in order to close out
the game.
The Panthers built a 5-0 lead after four innings of the first game.
The Panthers took advantage of three errors in the second to score
two unearned runs. Brumbelow had an RBI double in the fourth.
The Panthers closed out the game with three runs in the fifth
inning. Emmie Trull led off the inning with a double and scored as
Hazelwood reached on an infield hit. Katie Hein also scored on the
play as the result of an error. Ison ended the game with a double
to left, scoring Hazelwood for the 8-0 final.
The Panthers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning of the
second game. Ison and Williams drove in the runs with back-to-back
doubles.
The Panthers added to their lead in the third inning. With two
outs and no one on, Williams and Brumbelow kept the inning going
with back-to-back singles. Laura Webber followed with a double to
left center, scoring Williams and Brumbelow all the way from first
for a 4-0 lead.
The Panthers closed out the scoring with four more runs in the
fourth inning. The Panthers scored off two errors in the inning.
Hazelwood drove in a run with a bunt single.
The Panthers close out the regular season Saturday at the LC
Softball Complex against Birmingham-Southern. The doubleheader
begins at noon.
