Woodard's one-hitter helps Panthers split with Huntingdon

LaGrange's Kristen Woodard (7-5) threw a one-hit gem in the first game. Woodard walked only one and struck out two in the game. Kayla Bratcher (5-12) took the loss for Huntingdon (18-20, 6-4 GSAC).

Barton Hunter reached on an error to lead off the Huntingdon first inning. Woodard retired the next 15 batters in a row before Brittany Mitchell walked to lead off the sixth inning.

After Mitchell's walk, pinch-runner Brittney Calma moved up to second on a sacrifice bunt. Hunter beat out an infield single to break up the no-hitter. But Calma got caught in a run down between third and home for the second out and Woodard got out of the inning by getting Chasity Ward to pop out.

The Panthers had pushed across the game's only run in the top of the sixth inning. Valeree Williams singled to center field. Pinch-runner Emmie Trull moved up to second as Katie Hein reached on a fielder's choice on a sacrifice bunt attempt. Katie Ison followed with an RBI single to center, scoring Trull for a 1-0 lead.

The Panthers had four hits in the game. Williams had two of the four hits. Laura Webber had a double in three at-bats.

In the second game, Shanna Brumbelow (6-4) took the loss for the Panthers. Brumbelow allowed three runs, two earned, in five innings. She walked three and struck three. Danielle LaDuron pitched a scoreless sixth inning.

The Panthers had back-to-back two-out singles in the first inning by Brumbelow and Hein. Huntingdon's Melissa McClure (10-7) got Webber to pop out to get out of the inning. The Panthers also left two runners on in the third and fifth innings.

Huntingdon got a run in each of the second, third and fifth innings. The Lady Hawks scored their last two runs off of wild pitches.

The Panthers host Emory in a doubleheader Thursday beginning at 5 p.m.
