Panthers sweep Spelman in GSAC doubleheader

Danielle LaDuron and Kayla Folds pitched back-to-back complete games for the Panthers (14-12, 4-2 GSAC). LaDuron allowed only three hits and struck out six in the first game. Folds surrendered just two hits and struck out eight.

In the first game, the Panthers led 1-0 after two innings. They broke the game open with six runs in the third inning, taking advantage of four Jaguar errors in the inning. Katie Ison had an RBI double and Laura Webber a two-run single in the inning.

The Panthers closed out their scoring with two more runs in the fourth inning. Becca Abernathy drove in both runs with a two-out single to center to make it 9-0.

The Panthers had nine hits in the first game. Ison, Holly Hazelwood and Olivia McGehee each had two hits. Sephora Fortune had two hits for the Jaguars.

The Panthers exploded for 10 runs in the first inning of the second game. Valeree Williams hit a two-run home run to right center in the inning, her fourth of the season. Kayla Grizzle added a two-run single and Ison a two-run double later in the inning.

The Panthers came right back in the second inning with six more runs. Abernathy, Folds and Hanna Patterson had RBI singles in the inning.

Folds closed out the Panthers' scoring with a double in the fourth inning. LaDuron, who had reached on an error, scored for the 17-0 final score.

Folds and Abernathy each had three hits in the game. The Panthers finished with 16 hits. Grizzle, Hazelwood and Patterson all had two hits.

The Panthers play eight games on the road beginning Wednesday at Berry. After Wednesday, they play Emory, Piedmont and Huntingdon on the road Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
