Maryville ends Panthers' win streak with sweep of GSAC doubleheader

Maryville (10-18, 4-0 GSAC) trailed 2-1 in the first game heading to the bottom of the seventh. The Lady Scots tied the game with two outs on Kim Clark's RBI single. Alana Van Hoy followed with a game-winning double to center to give the Lady Scots the 3-2 win.

The Panthers had taken the lead with two runs in the sixth inning, both coming with two outs. Katie Ison's double scored Katie Hein, who had doubled with one out. After a walk to Valeree Williams, Shanna Brumbelow drove in Ison with a single to make it 2-1.

Brumbelow (4-2) took the loss on the mound for the Panthers. She allowed the three runs, but only one was earned and five hits. Brumbelow walked one and struck out two.

In the second game, the Panthers took a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Hein and Holly Hazelwood started the inning with back-to-back base hits. Ison followed with a double to right center, driving in both runners.

Maryville came back with a run in the second inning and two more in the third inning off Kristen Woodard (5-4). The Lady Scots broke the game open with four runs off reliever Kayla Folds in the fourth inning. Danielle LaDuron finished the game for the Panthers, allowing a run in two innings.

Hein finished the game a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate. Ison also had three hits in the game. The Panthers had 10 hits in the game and left 10 runners on base.

The Panthers host Spelman on Monday in a GSAC doubleheader beginning at 5 p.m.
