Men's Tennis: Panthers rally to edge Covenant 5-4 in USA South match

The LaGrange men's tennis team rallied to beat visiting Covenant 5-4 in a USA South match Saturday. The Panthers improved to 2-0 in conference play and 3-2 overall.

The Scots (5-3, 2-1 USA South) took two of the three doubles matches and the first two singles matches to build a 4-1 lead.

The Panthers reeled off four straight wins starting with Mitchell Corley at #3 singles to take the match. Zach Justice and Alex Glass won at #4 and #5 singles to tie the match.

In the deciding match at #6 singles, Zachary Tyner defeated Roy Anderson in three sets. Tyner won the first set 6-1 but Anderson won the second set in a tie-breaker 7-6. Tyner then closed out the match for the Panthers with a 6-3 third set win.

The Panthers split a pair of exhibition matches. Wade Fegley downed Connor Shimmel 8-6 and James Butcher lost to Jay Pannkuk 8-4.

The Panthers' USA South match at Piedmont for Sunday has been postponed due to forcasted inclement weather. It will be rescheduled at a later date.
