Men's Tennis: Panthers sixth in USA South preseason coaches poll

The LaGrange men's tennis team is picked sixth in the USA South preseason coaches poll as announced by the conference office.

The Panthers, under head coach Matt Donnett, are coming off an outstanding 2014 season. They qualified for the USA South championship tournament are posting an overall record of 8-7 and 5-4 in the conference.

The Panthers return senior Alex Glass along with juniors: Drew Cantrell, Wade Fegley and Zachary Tyner. Frehmen James Butcher, Mitchell Corley, Zach Justice and Henrique Sizenando are expected to contribute.

N.C. Wesleyan College was picked to defend its 2014 title by the coaches. The Bishops captured both the USA South regular season and tournament crowns last spring for the sixth consecutive season. N.C. Wesleyan received eighth of ten first place votes and 80 points as head coaches do not vote for their own teams in the balloting.

Methodist University, last season's tournament runners-up, finished second in the balloting with 70 points and one first place vote. Placing third in the poll with 68 points and the final first place vote was Huntingdon College followed closely in fourth by Piedmont College who grabbed 58 points. Averett University ranked fifth with 45 points and was followed closely in sixth by the Panthers who totaled 41 points.

The Panthers open their season Feb. 15 when they host Emory Oxford.

The 2015 USA South Men's Tennis Tournament will be played April 17-19 on the campus of N.C. Wesleyan as a part of the USA South Spring Sports Festival in Rocky Mount, N.C.
