Men's Tennis: Panthers picked fifth in USA South coaches preseason poll

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The LaGrange men's tennis team was selected fifth in the 2014 USA South Athletic Conference preseason coach's poll.

The Panthers, under head coach Matt Donnett, return four players that includes seniors Kevin Folsom and Steve Wendel. The Panthers will also have seven newcomers to the 2014 roster.

N.C. Wesleyan College was picked to win the title in the preseason coach's poll. The Bishops captured both the USA South regular season and tournament crowns last spring for the fifth consecutive season.

The 2014 season marks the first in the USA South for new conference members Covenant College and Huntingdon College. Both institutions are former members of the Great South Athletic Conference.

N.C. Wesleyan received nine of 10 first place votes and 81 points as head coaches do not vote for their own teams in the balloting.

Methodist University finished second in the balloting with 72 points and the final first place vote. Placing third in the poll with 58 points was Huntingdon followed closely in fourth by Piedmont College who grabbed 57 points. The Panthers ranked fifth with 41 points and was followed closely in sixth by Greensboro College who totaled 40 points.

The 2014 USA South Men's Tennis Tournament will be played April 11-13 on the campus of N.C. Wesleyan as a part of the USA South Spring Sports Festival in Rocky Mount, N.C.

The Panthers' spring season gets underway on Saturday, Feb. 15 on the road against Oxford at Emory.
