Men's Soccer: USA South releases preseason coaches poll

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Methodist University, under the direction of Head Coach Justin Terranova in his 12th year, was picked in the preseason coaches' poll to capture the USA South Athletic Conference men's soccer title in 2013. Last fall, the Monarchs captured the program's first-ever USA South Tournament crown. LaGrange College is 10th in the poll.

The Panthers open their 2013 season Aug. 30 at home against Columbia International.

The 2013 season marks the first in the USA South for new Conference members Covenant College and Huntingdon College. Both institutions are former members of the Great South Athletic Conference.

Methodist received eight of ten first place votes (80 points) as head coaches do not vote for their own teams in the balloting.

Last year's USA South Tournament runners-up, Greensboro College, finished second in the balloting with 68 points and one first place vote. N.C. Wesleyan College followed in third place with 66 points while Averett University grabbed 59 points and the final remaining first place vote to finish fourth in the poll. Rounding out the top-half of the poll with 44 points was newcomer, Covenant.

The men's soccer regular season gets underway on Friday, August 30 as all ten teams are in action.

The USA South Tournament will once again head to Martinsville, Virginia as the Southern Virginia Recreation Facilities Authority will host the 2013 Men's and Women's Soccer semifinals and finals. The contests will be held at the Smith River Sports Complex on November 8 and 9. The first round games of the tournaments will continue to be held on the campuses of the higher seeded team and will take place on Saturday, November 2. The top-eight seeded teams after the conclusion of regular season competition will advance to the tournament.
