Men's Soccer: Late goal lifts Averett past Panthers 2-1

Averett scored in the closing minutes to edge LaGrange 2-1 in a USA South game at Panther Field on Saturday. It was the fourth straight loss for the Panthers, now 2-6 overall and 0-2 in the conference.

John Thrower scored off a free kick with less than two minutes remaining for the game-winner for Averett (3-4-2, 1-2 USA South). Richard Bjornander had tied the game in the 53rd minute with a shot that deflected in off the cross bar.

The Panthers led 1-0 at halftime. Kevin Folsom flicked in a shot off a free kick by Adrien Vakerics in the 29th minute. The goal was Folsom's team-leading sixth of the season.

Averett had a 12-7 shot advantage, including a 6-3 edge in shots on goal. Donnie Palmer had four saves in goal for the Panthers.

The Panthers host Greensboro on Sunday in a USA South game at 4 p.m.
