Men's Soccer: Talladega holds off Panthers' second half rally

TALLADEGA, Ala. - Jose Luis Rodriguez scored three goals to lead Talladega held off LaGrange 5-3 on Monday. The Panthers lost for the second time in as many starts, while the Tornadoes improved to 4-1.

Rodriguez scored two of his goals in the first half as Talladega led 3-0. The Tornadoes out shot the Panthers 15-4 in the half. Augustos Maciel scored the other first half goal for the Tornadoes on an assist from Rodriguez.

The Panthers got their offense going in the second half after Rodriguez completed his hat track to give Talladega a 4-0 lead. Paul Smart put in a header off a pass from Juan Alzate for the Panthers' first goal. Harry Hinson blasted a shot from 30 yard out past goalkeeper Di-Stephano Occil to make it 4-2.

The Tornadoes got an insurance goal from Maciel to go up 5-2. Hinson closed out the scoring with his second goal of the game off a corner kick from Kevin Folsom.

The Panthers play at Warren Wilson on Saturday, Sept. 8.
