Men's Soccer: Georgia Southwestern edges Panthers 1-0
Georgia Southwestern scored the only goal of the match in the opening minute of the second half and went on to a 1-0 win over LaGrange at Panther Field on Wednesday. The loss dropped the Panthers to 2-8 on the season.
The Hurricanes, an NCAA Division II member, scored just 27 seconds into the second half. Marcus Diaz sent a long pass down the sideline to Ross Sellers. Sellers got past a defender and beat goalkeeper Donnie Palmer with a low shot to the near post.
The Panthers' best scoring chances both came in the 76th minute. Chandler Winner sent a cross pass over to Adrien Vakerics. Vakerics attempted to flick the ball with a header over goalkeeper Garrett Blamire but the shot went high and over the net.
Less than a minute later, Lewis McDaniel came free on the left side. McDaniel's shot went wide of the goal. The Panthers' last shot came from Kevin Folsom in the 86th minute, but went high of the goal.
Georgia Southwestern had a 10-5 shot advantage and the only three shots on goal. Palmer had a save in the first period and knocked away Hunter Sams' header in the 65th minute to keep a 1-0 match.
The Panthers play at Maryville in a GSAC match Saturday at 6 p.m.
