Sewanee got a second-half goal from Matt Lightfoot to edge LaGrange 1-0 on Saturday at Panther Field. The loss dropped the Panthers to 0-5, while the Tigers improved to 3-1-1.
The Tigers had a 12-11 shot advantage and 6-5 in shots on goal in the match. Panther goalkeeper Donnie Palmer had five saves.
Palmer had three of the saves in the first 10 minutes of the match. The Tigers out shot the Panthers 7-2 in the first half.
The Panthers put pressure on the Sewanee goal in the second half. Sewanee goalkeeper Derek Williams had all five of his saves in the half.
The Tigers got the only goal of the match in the 61st minute. Matt Lightfoot took a deflection off a Panther defender and beat Palmer with a shot to the near post for a 1-0 lead.
The Panthers had several chances but could not finish. Jeremy Ham's header went off the top bar in the final minutes.
The Panthers host Talledega on Wednesday.
